The Baku Sharks is a swim club serving the international community in Baku. The club offers both intermediate swim lessons as well as competitive swim squads.

When arriving in Baku in August 2010 Ruben and Marieke Scholten found no swim club for their son Niels, who was an enthusiastic competitive swimmer. To fill this gap Marieke, together with Samira McGregor, took the initiative to start the Baku Sharks.

In April 2011 a group of 17 swimmers started swimming in the Ramada Hotel indoor swimming pool. The club has grown exponentially and currently has 135 swimmers, 8 coaches, 3 swim squads, 3 intermediate swimming lesson levels, and occupies the Ramada Hotel pool 7 days a week!

The swim team is entirely run by an enthusiastic and exceptional team of volunteers. In April 2012 Orxan Samedov, an Azerbaijani national swimmer joined the club, teaching all our intermediate swimmers.

The Baku Sharks organize a bi-annual club swim competition, an annual charity swimathon, and competes in international swim competitions in the Middle East.
